Program Spotlight

UncomfortableConversationsUncomfortable Conversations: Launched by Library Director Jean Barsotti in early 2018, Uncomfortable Conversations is a series of community-wide discussions designed to initiate and facilitate conversations about tough topics that affect our children, our families, our friends, and our neighbors. This series brings together local citizens and issue-based experts, with the goal of informing citizens about pressing real-world problems and equipping them to take appropriate action. In conjunction with the community-based discussions, Barsotti has also launched an Uncomfortable Conversations Speaker Series Podcast which features interviews with issue-based experts.

Recent BuildingUp projects have included creating a working system of gears, building simple machines, creating a model roller coaster, and more. While the program’s primary aims are educational, it also seeks to “build up” the relationship between under-served local youth and the library, effectively ensuring that children’s educational and social needs are being met.
